Planned life is not an automatic retirement rule
The result is a scheduling prompt. Actual replacement timing should consider support, warranty, patchability, capacity, failure history, parts, compatibility and business plans.
Lead time includes more than purchasing
- Budget and approval
- Architecture and compatibility review
- Procurement and delivery
- Configuration and migration
- Recovery testing
- Decommissioning and record updates
Document exceptions
When an asset remains in service beyond the planned date, record the reason, compensating controls, support status and next decision date. This turns an unmanaged delay into a visible risk decision.
